Even though I saw that movie last Thursday (at a special screening that involved a lovely Q&A thanks to LA Times Hero Complex with Richard Armitage and Lee Pace here in NYC), it seemed only fitting to write a post about The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies on the day that it actually premieres.
So today, December 17th 2014, we say one last hail and farewell to Middle Earth.
Over the years, I’ve discovered that being in Tolkien’s world has had a significant affect on my life. It’s changed the way I see things. It’s change my imagination and it’s changed my view on all things fantasy and fantastical.
It’s made me write odes to the creatures big and small. It’s made me want to tattoo beautiful images and words onto my skin. It’s made me emotional listening to the songs written for this world.
To say I enjoyed this movie doesn’t do my feelings towards Middle Earth justice. Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit will forever be a huge part of my life and it is something that I wish to share with everyone. To be able to bask in the glorious imagination of J.R.R Tolkien is a beautiful thing to me and it’s a feeling that will never go away.
The years I’ve spent with these books and movies and the emotions evoked because of it, will always be precious.
