Machine Through Time

Congrats! You’re the owner of a new time machine. The catch? It comes in two models, each traveling one way only: the past OR the future. Which do you choose, and why?

d515c24174332ad18439672669d4e6a9I would definitely be willing to travel into the past. But specifically, I want to travel back to 1800’s Colonial London. I want the big fancy dresses with the corsets and the big extravagant hair. I want the coat and tails and bearded men with bowler hats atop their heads. I want the cobblestoned streets and the dark and rainy skies. I want steel, steel and more steel. I want smoke stacks and brick and mortar. I want the horse and carriage and constantly gloved hands.

One of my favorite genres to read is historical fiction. The images that are brought to mind always make me want to join the characters as they walk downflat,550x550,075,f the streets. I want to join them as they ride in carriages and make polite conversation. I want to twirl a parasol on a particularly sunny day. I want to stand on the bridge over looking the Thames. I want to sit at a fancy table and have high tea. I want to hear Big Ben chime loudly in my ears. I want to remember remember the 5th of November.

There’s just something endearing about living in a time without the technology of today. It calms my aching brain.

  1. I definitely agree with that. Part of the allure of the future is that it’s unknown. I wouldn’t want to spoil that. And even though corsets seem painful, I love the dresses and the hair of that time! Can I go with you?
