Fifteen Minutes

You have 15 minutes to address the whole world live (on television or radio — choose your format). What would you say?

They say that you should be careful what you wish for; it just might come true. But there’s a reason that wishes are made in secret. No one other than yourself will know what you most desire. What your true feelings about something are. You choose to keep those things to yourself with the hope that if…if they come true that you, and you alone, will be happier for it. But the words that people say are not said in secret. They are said loud and clear and sometimes behind the backs of others. These words can not only cause joy and happiness but they can also cause pain. Pain that can be either physical, mental, emotional, or all three. We have to be careful what we say. This does not mean that have to be censored or that we cannot give our opinion. But remember, words are powerful. The most powerful weapon we have in a world surrounded by violence and war. They can make or break some and others that are caught in the cross fire. I have heard too many people say things that they can never take back. I have heard too many people say things that make them sound prejudice and ignorant. I have heard too many people say things with the sole intent of taking away the rights of others.

We have enough hate in the world. We have enough people making use of a vile tongue. What we need more of is love. We need more people speaking out against the things that make others feel unwanted, undeserving, and inhuman. We need to cherish every life. Give every person a reason to keep going.

We don’t need to be careful about what we wish for, but instead, we need to be careful of what we speak for.
