A Little Perspective

Think about something that drives you crazy. Now, think about something that makes you happy. Does it change your perspective on the former?

Something that has been driving me crazy ever since May of this year, is the fact that I am no longer in school and am instead partaking the beginning of my working days that will inevitably last forever (I mean with the way things are going I won’t be able to retire until I’m like 80)….This drives me crazy because I am no longer a college student and I can’t seem to accept that fact. I thoroughly enjoyed college. I loved seeing my friends everyday and in my last 2 years of college was taking the classes that I actually wanted and enjoyed learning from. Now, all I do is work and I don’t see my friends as much anymore. They’re all still in college and are extremely busy with all the work that they have to do. The ones that are out of college are also busy working like I am. So this really drives me crazy.

However, something that makes me happy is that fact that I have so much more free time now, then I had when I was in college. I constantly had papers to write, exams to study for and classes to attend, 5 days a week. Now, when I come home after 4pm or 5pm, I can do whatever I want. I don’t have to worry about tons of reading I have to do, or remember what time I have to get up to get to class the next morning. I have the weekends free, I have my nights free. I can read for pleasure again. I am even free to do this blog. I’m also getting paid, instead paying to take classes, so that will always be a plus to me.

So yes, that does change my perspective. I went to college so I could get a good job. I have a job so I can pay for the things that I want. I work so I can eventually achieve my dream of being in the field of publishing. That gives this new chapter in my life new meaning.

  1. You are happy now that is what counts..We all want to be happy. It is human nature to dislike what we do and then start missing it when we are done. It reminds me of the moral science book I had,it says ,”man can be happy to some extent, but cannot attain perfect happiness.” I read it when I was eight years old, imagine life is reminding me about it now,I understand the word happy or happiness better.

  8. You can still sneak back to your school at night to bug those super intelligent straight A grad students for fun. Chances are you’ll hook up with a very good boyfriend, because those straight A students secretly want a real life and you will show them what you’ve got: plenty of free time to pursue your passions! Sounds like a deal?
