What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?
What am I most scared to do? Honestly, I don’t really like telling other people my fears. I find that sometimes, whether they know it or not, people tend to use your fears against you. I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds once (and yes, that show does sometimes scare me but I love it) and the episode featured a psychiatrist who became a serial killer and used the fears of his patients against them. For example, one guy was afraid of drowning, so his doctor told him he needed to face his fears and took the man out to the lake. And then, of course, drowned him.
Now, this is not to say that this will happen to everyone. I would sincerely hope this would never happen to anyone. Yes, I have a fear of drowning but that doesn’t stop me from swimming. I have a fear of falling off a building but that doesn’t stop me from climbing to the top of a really high one and glancing over the edge. I have a fear of haunted houses but that doesn’t stop me from going to them.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, that I do these things because I have a fear of being afraid and that’s something I don’t want to be. Being afraid is not a good feeling. You begin lose track of yourself when you’re consumed with fear. In some cases, it can become debilitating. But I’ve also known fear to bring out extraordinary qualities in us that we would not normally have known about. However, I would rather be prompted to do extraordinary things without the help of fear.
So I suppose my biggest fear is fear itself.
