So I’m aware that there’s nothing particularly monolithic, or gigantic or colossal about this particular Monday but it’s a word that immediately popped into my head when I was thinking of words that also started with “M” in order to title this post. So there ya go. There is, however, something pretty monolithic about this quote, so I think it fits.
It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything. – Fight Club
Not only is this quote from one of my favorite movies of all time, but it’s also one of those movies that teaches you so much. I see this quote and this entire movie as a motif for “letting go”. You can’t control everything in your life. Sometimes you just have to let things happen. Let it happen and see how it unfolds. Don’t miss out on the greatest moments of your life because you are afraid of the potential pain. Embrace that pain, welcome it even and then you will finally be free; free to anything and everything you want. If you hold back from doing what you want because you’re concerned about how it might turn out then you will never do anything. Now, I’m not saying burn your hand with acid or anything in order to have this revelation, but do something that scares you. Do something that makes you feel something; whether it be surprise, elation or even overwhelming pain. Do it anyway. You may not realize it when you’re actually experiencing the greatest moment of your life but make sure you’re aware of everything you do. Otherwise you could miss it.
